A Baptismal Anthem
Words by Christy Kohnle
Music by Mark Rippe
"New Life" is Christy's first full collaboration with Mark Rippe. Their intent was to write a song that would challenge both of them and result in something entirely different from what either of them could produce on their own. Christy wrote the words; Mark wrote the melody and arranged it in his beautiful way. The result is this unique and special baptismal anthem.
"New Life" was written to be a baptismal anthem. Additionally, though, with the sanctity of life being so hotly debated in today's world, the opening verses and chorus would be a beautiful and poignant theme song for a life-affirming ministry's promotional videos.
Verse 1
A whisper; a breath; a flicker in the night.
A presence; a knowing; a stirring of new life.
The gentle and creative hand of Loving Father Lord,
Conceiving through His mystery, a child yet unborn.
Chorus
This child, created in God's own image.
This child, this child so wondrous and bright.
Born in the power and promise of God,
Reflecting His goodness, His beauty, and light.
Verse 2
So precious; so nurtured; a joy beyond compare.
So tiny and treasured; held in heaven's care.
This little one sent from above, miraculously formed,
Until the time accomplished comes, a child is born.
Chorus
Verse 3
So, Father, we gather to dedicate this (these) life (lives);
We'll love him (her/them) and teach him (her/them) of Jesus' sacrifice.
United now, we make our vow to raise him (her/them) as Your own;
To honor You his (her/their) whole life (lives) through, until safely home.
Chorus

This child, this gift of God's intention,
So fearfully and wonderfully made,
Was given life's breath and, from cradle to death,
Will be held in grace by the One who holds all things in place.
