A Statement of Faith

One Sunday, as Christy’s husband drove their family home from church, she thought about how much simpler memorizing the creeds might be if they were put to music. As she focused on the words of the Apostles’ Creed, she attached a melody to each line and wove them together into a song; it was complete by the time they arrived home.
This song closely adheres to the traditional words of the creed, so it is appropriate to be sung congregationally, or by a soloist for worship services. Rather than fitting a fixed musical template, the tune takes its cues from the message and meter of the words. When introducing it in bite-sized pieces, this song is an excellent teaching tool for children, and people of all ages.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried.
He descended into Hell; and on the third day, He rose from the dead.
He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father.
And He shall come again from Heaven to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, in the holy Christian Church,
The communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
